Nick Thorn's Competitive Results
Nick started his career as a competitive swimmer, representing the West of England Swimming Team in Luxembourg from 1994 to 1996. Nick also represented South West Schools 3 times and Devon on several occasions.
From this he progressed into Surf Lifesaving & Ironman events, whilst all the while remaining a keen and competitive surfer.
At a National level, Nick achieved 1st place in the Iron Man, Run/Swim/Run, surf swim, board, board relay, ski relay, taplin relay, belt race, board rescue, tube rescue, 2k run and sprint relay events from 1993 - 2002, in both the intermediate and senior men's event. Nick currently holds the European record for the 200m obstacle race, having won this event from 1993 until 2000.
In 1995/96 Australian summer, by invitation of Surf Life Saving Association of Australia, Nick trained and successfully competed in the Australian Surf Life Saving and Swimming circuits. He was selected in the N.S.W development team.
Nick was a member of both Great Britain Team and England Team from 1993 until 2001, representing in both beach and still water events.
Nick competed at the Professional Lifeguard Oceanfest, Hawaii 1999, winning Gold Medal in the Open board race, and Bronze medals in surf swim and in the run-swim-run event.
Nick has competed successfully in four World Surf Life Saving Championships:
- Rescue 2000 in Australia. Ranking 6th in the world for the Ironman Competition.
- Rescue 98 in New Zealand: Silver Medal in the team event.
- Rescue 96 in Durban, South Africa:- Won a Bronze Medal in the Run- Swim - Run.
- Rescue 94 in Newquay, England : Bronze Medal in the team event.
